Pinterest Finds - Altered Art

First of all... if you're not familiar with pinterest.com let me explain.... well... let's let Pinterest explain. This is how they describe it.

"Pinterest.com is a virtual pin board that lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. You can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing is a great way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests."

Look What I Made...

Recently, I designed some printable bookmarks using some really cute owl graphics from www.digimyworld.com.

Below is a picture of how they looked when they were first printed on white card stock. (click the image for a better view)

While I was happy with the way they printed, I decided to take things a step further. I inked the edges of the bookmarks and added a piece of colored cardstock as a backing piece, cut slightly larger than the bookmark - also inked. I punched a hole and added some string. Now they're finished!

New Vintage/Primitive Style Labels

I just listed a couple sets of vintage/primitive style laundry labels this week. I'm really pleased with the way they turned out. They have a subtle feedsack-type print as the background and images from old advertisements to make the look authentic.

Each printable page has two designs and each design prints in three sizes. I can see this looking really cute on a jar in your laundry room with the jar filled with powdered detergent.

Hope you like them as much as I do... I have plans to make more in different styles. I think I heard someone mention sheep. ;-)

Something New - Something Different

I just wanted to share something that I received in the mail a few days ago.

This gorgeous candle box made by Carol and Tim of www.firecrackerkid.etsy.com and www.firecrackerkid.blogspot.com

I haven't taken the time to get it hung or decorated, but it's definitely on my list of things to do in the next few days.

Carol and Tim do a really nice job on their wood items. They make all kinds of things including one-of-a-kind rolling pin racks, bowl racks, cabinets and more. They are all handmade in their woodshop here in Ohio.

GASP!

Wow! Over a month has rolled past and I haven't blogged. What have I been doing!?? (besides not blogging).... Well, I'm not really sure what I've been doing, but I do know I have been busy.

I have been adding some regular blog posts at www.byyourhands.blogspot.com. By Your Hands is a blog I co-author with my friend, and business partner, Bette Shaw. I gotta say... Bette does most of the work over there so that makes it such a great blog. :-)

I've been adding new printables to my website, www.ewenmeprintables.com. I've added quite a few things for Valentine's Day and this weekend, I have been working on a few for Easter.

My ArtFire studio, www.ewenmeprintables.artfire.com has been keeping me busy - I have been trying to add more things there regularly. I also signed on as a designer at www.papercraftkits.com. It's a new site owned my Denyse Murray. I'm very pleased to be a designer there, as I am amongst some of the best designers around.

Let's see... what else... Oh! Yes! I designed a neat set of graphics for Carol of www.firecrackerkid.blogspot.com Carol and her husband Tim make some really amazing woodcrafts. Check them out sometime, you'll be amazed.

My (middle) son will be celebrating his 10th birthday in a couple of days and my hubby, Ed and I will have our 11th anniversary on January 29. Not sure where all THAT time has went, but I know I was busy. LOL

August 2010... How did that happen?

I woke up this morning and as I was drinking coffee from my Spongebob coffee cup realized that today is August 1st. Not really a big deal to some, but to me it is. School will be starting in a few weeks so that means some schedule changes. Not necessarily bad changes, but changes, nonetheless.

I have a to-do list a hundred miles long. I guess most of you reading this probably do too. I've been wanting to design more as well as do more crafting. So hopefully, I can accomplish that and share some of it with you. I have a few business goals I'd like to accomplish, along with some household things to do too.

I need to be careful with all of these ideas floating thru my mind today and write them down and really try to get some of them accomplished, at least the things of importance. I don't want to end up like Patrick, shown in the photo below.

Why am I telling you? (you may be asking that) Well... because I'm going to be sharing some of these things with you here on my blog... and I want you to be prepared. LOL - OK, not really! I'm thinking if I write this down here I'll be more accountable.

So anyway... wish me luck... there's LOTS to do. Hopefully, I'll be checking in with updates.

Bloom Where You're Planted...

I'm pretty sure that I've posted a link to these FREE printable bookmarks in the past... well, actually... the link is on the left side bar of my blog here, but I thought I'd bring it out to the forefront again.

I have to say that this is probably more of a reminder for me than anything else. I'm going thru some busy times and having to do some things that I'm not really wanting to do, so I'm reminding myself that this is where I am and I'm to "bloom where I'm planted". None of these things I have to do are earth-shattering or devastating but I'm finding myself grumpin' about it WAAAY too much. Now you can see why I need the reminder.

It's been a while since I've printed these, so I think I'll print them off and place them in different places around the house... refrigerator, bathroom mirror, computer desk... etc.

I hope you like them and don't need them as a reminder like I do. ;-)

Catching up...

Wow! - Long time... no blogging. I guess it's time to catch up here. What's going on? Well, let's see... LOL... where to begin...

Bette Shaw and I have started a new blog, www.byyourhands.blogspot.com. I think I have posted about it here before, but since I'm playing catch up, I thought I'd trow it out there to you again. We have a lot going on over there and one of the BIG things right now is we're having a HUGE PATTERN GIVEAWAY. We have 12 patterns by 10 different designers. - GREAT STUFF!! It's open to USA and Canada residents.

I've been busy loading my etsy shop and artfire studio with lots of new things. Of course, all of these things are available on my website too www.ewenmeprintables.com

Here are a couple things I've made recently from some of my newer printables.

This first one is made from my Printable Hang Tags - Antique Ads. I added some colored cardstock to the back of these. That really seems to make the tag stand out and gives the back a nice finished look.

The next thing I have here is a Printable Cocoa/Seed Envelope. I really like the way this turned out. I realize that summer isn't the best time for cocoa, but these envelopes have so many other uses.

Ok... I think that gets us caught up a little bit for now. LOL I hope to post more often so keep checking back, subscribe to my feed or become a follower if you like what you see.

Vintage Advertising Collage Sheets

One day last summer, my hubby and I went out "thrifting", we stopped at an antique store and after poking around the place for an hour or so, I ran across some really old magazines... Ladies World, Ladies Home Journal and The Domestic Journal. They date from 1895 - 1913, so you can imagine how fun they are to look at and read. Actually, I was amazed at what great shape they were in for being that old.

I've been pain-stakinly scanning these old beauties and have made several printable collage sheets with them. I hope to do more with them as time moves along.

Mother's Day - Are you ready?

Quick, Last Minute Easter Gifts...

Are you ready for Easter? I have to confess, I don't have my basket fillers ready yet. Although, what you're about to see here, does help get me started.

These things were made with my easy to download, printables. They're all really quick to make. I honestly had them all printed and assembled within 15 minutes.

First, is the Spring Grab N Go cup wrapper. The wrapper is made for the 12 oz. Dixie Grab N Go coffee cups. I think these would be really cute with a little easter grass in the bottom and filled with candy. Sorta like a mini Easter basket.

Next, is the Easter Blessings snack bag wrapper. These are super duper quick! Just fill a snack size baggie with treats, adhere the bag to the wrapper and glue the top flap down. These would be great for classroom treats because they are so quick to make.

Maybe you're giving a gift card? Don't settle for the boring envelope that comes with it. These gift card envelopes make up really quick and are sooo cute. The gift cards fit inside perfectly!

Please take a minute to read a little bit about Lucy and her wonderful primitives.

1. What is the name of your Etsy shop and why did you choose that name?
lucy43g a.k.a. The Farmer’s Attic. (Need to open a new shop with the name Farmer’s Attic!)

2. How long have you been on Etsy?
Since December 20, 2007 but only really started adding items to the shop in October, 2009

3. What type of items do you offer?
We have a variety of items from home décor, primitives, vintage, fabric, quilts, pincushions, holiday, seasonal, handbags, heirloom items, etc.

4. How long have you been crafting?
I think I have been crafting all of my life. I learned a lot of sewing at a very early age by watching a dear lady sew clothing and curtains while she babysat me over the summer months. I also taught myself to knit in the car after visiting and watching a relative in North Carolina. On the way home to New Jersey, I had two rattail combs and some yarn that she gave me and I learned to knit during the long car ride home. I think I was about 9 or 10 at the time (I’m now 51!)

5. Who or What inspires you?
Fabric, fabric, fabric. I love the textures, colors, feel and flow. Also, lots of magazines and books (I’m a book hog!) and now I have the internet!!!!!!!!!

6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
I love my pincushions. There’s just something about them that make me happy. There is such a variety out there today and I want to have one of everything!!!

7. Other places where you can be found (Ebay, webstore, blog)
My webstore went live in September, 2009 and can be found at www.farmersattic.com. I don’t yet have an Ebay store but I do sell under my username: thefarmersattic. I’m also fairly new to the blogging world and I think I’m addicted, you can find me at www.farmersattic.blogspot.com

Aged Tags...

Today, I'd like to take a minute to share these new tags with you. They're made with some really neat graphics.

The background was an actual tag that I scanned and digitally aged. The scraps of vintage newspaper were scanned from some newspapers from 1910. (be watching for more things made with those) The floral backgrounds are from digital scrapbooking papers from www.digiscrapkits.com, and last I added the cupcake graphics from www.primsydoodledesigns.com The rickrack is very realistic too, it makes you want to touch it and feel the texture.

With all those things combined, it's made for some of my favorite hang tags.

1. What is the name of your Etsy shop and why did you choose that name?
KeepsakeKorner. As to how the name came about.....actually...nothing special. Wanted a name that reflected items you would want to keep. So I played around with some names. Now my sub-line "Creations from Stitches of Thread" came about from playing around with names that represented for the most part, my creativity in fibers.

2. How long have you been on Etsy?
I believe a year and 3 months now. Started May 2008.

3. What type of items do you offer?
Many purposeful/needful items. Most are sewing. I do alot of other art work, but haven't display much on Etsy.

4. How long have you been crafting?
Just about all my life. My grandmother that raised me taught me to sew. She was a lovely seamstress. Did alot of sewing during the depression to bring in extra money.

5. Who or What inspires you?
Words from novels, poems etc. can inspire me. Then there is God's Creation! Awesome!

6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
Oh I guess my Yo-Yo Flower picture that is framed. Right now they are alot of fun. I get bored easily, (perhaps I have ADD)will thus try new things and go all out for a while until the boredom bug bites. ! :)

I named my shoppe Irish Corkies Primitives for my yellow lab Corkie, her full name is Bailey’s Irish Cork.

2. How long have you been on Etsy?
I have been on Etsy since 2006, but really started selling there about a year ago.

3. What type of items do you offer?
I offer hand-crafted primitive signs, primitive shelf-sitter blocks, and peg racks. I hope to expand into more furniture items in the future.

I have been crafting for the past 10 years or so but have really focused on my primitive signs for the past 6 years.

I love the olde look and feel of times gone by and I just love how prim signs and decorating can make your home feel like it is from the 1800’s with a few modern throw ins.

Ideas For National Craft Month...

I'm sure most of you reading this know that March is National Craft Month... right? Well, I have been Googling up a National Craft Month storm so I could share some neat projects with you.

My Etsy shop name is Teresa's Prim Treasures. When I first started attending craft shows and needed to apply for a tax ID number I was told your name had to be in your title to avoid filing for a fictious name. I loved "Primitives" and wanted others to "treasure" my creations for years to come. So, putting all 3 of these together I came up with Teresa's Primitive Treasures for my website. When I opened my Etsy shop I shortened it a bit to TeresasPrimTreasures.

2. How long have you been on Etsy?
I joined Etsy in September of 2007 but didn't list anything to sell until 5 months later. So I began selling in March 2008.

3. What type of items do you offer?
My husband makes shelves, cabinets, cupboards and anything wooden I ask him to craft..... most of the time.... and I do the sanding and painting. I also love to paint and sew! You will find all 3 types of work in my shop. I love working with wool and hand stitching!

4. How long have you been crafting?
I started sewing Amish dolls and dressed bunnies back in 1989 for a local gift shop..... so that would make it 20 years! Really hard to believe! I've been so fortunate to be a stay at home mom and craft for that long.

5. Who or What inspires you?
My mother is my greatest inspiration! She has a house full of antiques and ideas for projects. I love looking at old books and surfing the web for interesting patterns!

6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
I would say my Tattered Prairie Dolls. I created and named them after my nieces and my first Granddaughter. They have done quite well for me over the years!

Round Rabbit Tags...

Today, I took a few minutes and printed out some of my new 1.75" Round Vintage Bunnies. I think they're really cute and with all the snow I see outside it was good to work on something that resembled spring.

I couldn't decide what color of ink and background paper (for the scalloped circles) to use, so I just kinda played around. The first photo shows what they look like with aqua ink on the edges and a tan background. I also used a natural colored macrame cord for the ties. (You can click the photos for a larger view.)

The second one I used a light copper colored ink on the edges. This is probably one of my favorite ink pads and as you can see it doesn't show up much... I think it's mostly because I use it so much and it is almost out of ink. It does have a nice subtleness to it if you look real close. I opted to not put ties on these as I might use them on other projects

And last, but certainly not least, I tried using black ink on these. I don't know that I "love" it, but it does make the images really jump out. I used aqua ink on the background paper. Not sure about the black string, but it could easily be changed.

1. What is the name of your Etsy shop and why did you choose that name? My shop is named Primgals Primitive Palette. I chose the name as it best represented what I do. I love to paint primitive items for the home, for everyday use and holidays.

 2. How long have you been on Etsy? I have been on Etsy since January of 2008

 3. What type of items do you offer? I am very eclectic. I love to paint on found items at thrift stores, tag sales etc. I also purchase some of my surfaces, such as the switch plates, and soaps.

 4. How long have you been crafting? I have crafted all my life, starting at the age of 8 when I took my first ceramic class. I have had a love of painting ever since.

 5. Who or What inspires you? Colonial or Primitive art of any kind. I love to see homes that are decorated in this style. I have some very favorite artists also such as Terrye French, Donna Atkins, and John Sliney.

 6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why? I just love my soaps! They are unique, as I go through a five step process to make them appear as old as they look. it is always such fun to come up with new and different designs for them. Plus they are affordable, and I love being able to produce an item that everyone can afford to add to their home decor.

Firecrackerkid Primitives. I chose this name, because I was born on the 4th of July, and my family always called me "the firecrackerkid". My father said when I was born I came out with a bang, jokingly of course. Plus it's Independence Day, and I really love my country, and my freedom so it all fits together nicely.

One year and four months

3. What type of items do you offer? One-of-a-kind Woodcrafts and reproduction woodcrafts of different Early American dough bowl racks and furniture.

4. How long have you been crafting? Twenty years.

5. Who or What inspires you?

The love of all things Primitive. Plus, the economy is what inspired my husband and myself to make our own Primitives. My husband is who inspires me, because of his hard work ethics, and the fact that he can do just about anything or any challenge put before him. He's a hard working man. A Jack-of-all-trades so to speak. He was a carpenter since he was a teenager, and even built our home along with several other homes locally. Pretty inspiring and impressive to me.

6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?

That would be our one-of-a-kind items. We like to come up with unique primitive woodcrafts that are appealing to others, and yet at the same time are functional in the home.

I'm SO ready for spring...

...but spring isn't so ready for me. LOL

I live in central Ohio, and we got right at 12 inches of snow over the past 24 hours.

Hubby got stuck (in the 4x4) in the driveway (well, actually the yard) last night when he got home from work, so the morning was spent diggin' and shovelin'! The driveway still isn't all cleared... it's just too much to do in one day as we live on top of a hill.

My hubby doesn't work a "normal" work week so getting the 4x4 un-stuck and clearing a path for him to get out the driveway was enough for today.

I'm gonna spend the rest of the day right here, in my LA-Z-BOY and pretend all that fluffy white stuff isn't here. - I think they call that "burying your head in the sand". Maybe they should call it "burying your head in the snow". LOL

Enjoy the pics... and ya know, I do have to admit, it is kinda pretty. (gasp! did I REALLY say that!)

The name of my shop is Holly Ridge Creations and all I can say is that we live on a ridge that has lots and lots of holly...hmmmm, not so creative, huh?

I joined the OFG group in the spring of 2008 but I have to confess that I haven't been very diligent in keeping my shop filled.  I am trying really hard to correct that.

Most of my items are handpainted and one of a kind.  I love doing snowmen and santas and will be adding those to my shop along with more trash to treasure items and gourd head dolls.

I have been crafting since the mid 80's...I know, I'm old!! :-)

Dreaming of Warmer Weather...

Are you ready for spring to arrive? I AM!! But goodness... I just looked at the thermometer... it's 5 degrees (f)!!!

I'm a homebody and LOVE staying home, but I do like the freedom to come and go as needed. Yes, I can still go out in this weather, and I do, but it's not fun wearing boots, coats, gloves - warming up the car 30 minutes prior to leaving and all that jazz. - Yes, things could be a whole LOT worse and I Praise God that they're not. (just had to get the cold weather rant out of my system - LOL)
Anyway... even though, it's not looking or feeling like spring here in Ohio, I can still dream and creating these tags helped me do that. :-)

These tags are made with graphics from Trina Clark of www.DigiScrapKits.com. They print beautifully and are in 300 dpi, these will come to you as a printable PDF file that you can instantly download from my website, www.EweNmePrintables.com. The printable file contains an 8.5”x11” page with 6 tag images. The tags are in two sizes - 3.25"x4.5" and 2.5"x3.25".

They're really simple to make. Simply print, cut, add a string or tassel and you're done.

BTW - I just looked at the thermometer and temperature just dropped another degree. I think I'm gonna go print off a WHOLE BUNCH of these tags now and dream about green grass, flowers, birds and hamburgers on the grill. :-)

Bottle Capping...

In this first photo I have the word LOVE spelled out. They're made from the Vintage Rose Alpha images.

These are the Vintage Cupids. I love that aqua blue color in those. Not the best photo (sorry 'bout that)

Tomorrows Treasures for the patterns I design. My business name is Bette's Tomorrows Treasures but it had to be cut down to fit for Etsy.

Handmade By Bette is my newest shop for handmade items.

Creating is Therapy for me and helps me to forget the pain and I thoroughly enjoy it!

Probably my Art Dolls. I love to dress them in vintage baby clothes from the 1920's and each of them comes out different with their own personality.

Calendar Tag Book Tutorial

I'd like to share a project with you on making a Tag Book from my printable calendar tags. I just added the file to my website today. It's available for $3.00 and comes to you as a pdf file that you print from your own printer.

You can make the tag book by simply printing the pages on cardstock, trimming and attaching them together with ribbon and using the files "as is", they would look great that way but, in this tutorial, I am taking it a few steps further.

Things you will need:
Printable Calendar Tags printed on white card stock
Scissors
Glue Stick
Ink Pad (optional)
Colored Card Stock to put on the backs of the tags
Hole Punch
Ribbon, Fibers, Yarn etc.

Start by printing the calendar tags and quote tages on white card stock. Trim the calendar and quote tags and ink the edges. (inking is optional). You should have something that looks like this...

Cut enough pieces of cardstock just slightly larger than the calendar and quote tags. I cut my backing pieces approx. 2.75 in x 4.5 in but it left a lot of wasted cardstock, so you may want to trim yours a bit smaller. If you cut them the size that I did you can always use the leftover pieces for another project.

You will need 18 pieces of cut cardstock if you are making the calendar with the quotes and 12 pieces if you are only making the calendar tags. Ink qll the edges if you desire.

You'll now have a pile of cardstock pieces that look something like this.

With your glue stick, cover the back of the calendar and quote tags with glue (one or two at a time).

Attach the calendar or quote tag to the inked side of the card stock.

Once they are all attached to their backing, decide where you want the hole to attach them all together to be. I chose to punch mine in the top center just above the bow, but the upper left corner would be good too. Punch a hole all of the tags.

Assemble the tags in the order you'd like them to be in and insert the binder ring thru all the holes and close the ring.

Tie on fibers, strips of fabric, strips of yarn, string to cover most of the binder ring and you're done.

You can keep this as a gift for yourself or give it as a small gift. You could also make the tags separately and use them as bookmarks.

I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial and will enjoy making your own calendar tag book.

A few days ago I added some new printables to my website... Grab N Go Cup Wrappers.

They are soo fun to make, they're quick, they're easy and SUPER CUTE. To make them all you do is simply print the wrapper, cut it out and add a little bit of glue, and some ribbon for the tag.

I plan to fill these with candy, treats, lotto tickets, gift cards and other things. These will be given to teachers, bus drivers, co-workers, nieces & nephews and friends.

Wrappin' it up!

This week I have been busy designing new popcorn wrappers. I added a total of eight new ones and I don't know if I could pick a favorite if I had to.

These were soooo quick and easy to make. They go together in a snap and the finished results are just too cool.

Below are some photos of the finished wrappers on the popcorn. I think I will leave them in the Santa tin and pass them along to friends and family when they drop by over the holidays.
